NONPF Core Competencies Content
ANSWERS
Nurse Practitioner graduates possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for autonomous clinical practice. The NP Role Core Competencies are developed through mentored patient care experiences with an emphasis on interprofessional training, the use of technology to deliver and improve patient and population health outcomes, analytic skills for evaluating and providing evidence-based, person-centered care across settings, and advanced knowledge of the health care delivery system. Doctorally prepared nurse practitioners to apply scientific foundation knowledge for quality care and engage in practice inquiry to improve health outcomes, health policy, and healthcare delivery. The competencies developed here to expand on previous work that identified knowledge and skills required for DNP NP Competencies.
The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) developed a list of nine core competencies for nurse practitioner (NP) programs to follow. These guidelines ensure that NPS gains the necessary skills in the field.
The core competencies cover all NP specializations and population foci. Each competency is accompanied by a recommended curriculum content that can assist programs in adequately educating their nursing students.
While the NONPF does not require institutions to use their recommended curriculum, it does provide a road map for students to practice nursing successfully.
