Future Vision Of Informatics
ANSWERS
Whatever a future vision for health informatics entails, it must consider the field’s evolving nature, a growing trend toward primary and preventive care, and the Internet’s explosive growth in global networking. While data storage and retrieval have historically been the primary goals of information system development, the need to capture knowledge is now the primary focus. Simultaneously, health informatics education for tomorrow’s healthcare professionals is now required. The Asia Pacific Association for Medical Informatics (APAMI) is an International Medical Informatics Association regional group (IMIA). While the Asia Pacific region is the newest of the IMIA regional organizations, its growth and activities aim to advance health informatics. Its triennial conferences promote and monitor the growth of our field in this region, and APAMI is a part of the future of health informatics.
