Advocate For Improved Systems To Address Health Inequities
ANSWERS
The COVID-19 pandemic has both exposed and exacerbated public health inequities. Individuals and communities affected by the policies under consideration must advocate locally to ensure that health systems are robust, sustainable, and accountable to the people they are supposed to serve and represent.
At the Triangle Global Health Annual Conference on November 4, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) hosted a panel of international experts to discuss the challenges, successes, and lessons learned in advocating equitable health systems. Vandana Shah, GHAI’s Regional Director for South Asia Programs, moderated the panel.
The global health response to the inequities exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic must focus on equity, and equity necessitates advocacy: ensuring that people affected by policies, including those who are excluded in the first place, can make their voices heard effectively and in areas where they will have an impact.
