Answer: NUR 590 Topic 6 Discussion 1
What exactly is a research gap?
The term “gaps in the literature” refer to missing or inadequate material in the study literature. These are topics where further research is needed because they are unknown, under-explored, or obsolete.
A research gap is an issue or a problem that has not been addressed by any previous studies or research in your field. A research gap might occur when a notion or fresh idea has not been thoroughly researched. If all of the existing research is old and in need of new/updated research, you may encounter a research gap (studies on Internet use in 2001, for example).
Identifying research gaps can help to improve the design and execution of health research by providing more background information about the body of evidence in a certain issue area.
When reviewing the literature and different types of evidence for your project, what gaps in the findings did you encounter? How could these gaps influence other researchers?
