My capacity to experience life as a teenager has always been limited. My exposure to the outside world was often closely monitored by my parents, as they ensured that I never engaged in activities that they thought as morally wrong. It is, therefore, correct to say that I have lived all my teenage years under the close watch of both my parents. My first taste of independence was moments after joining college. While most of my peers had already been used to freedom and substantial exposure, I never imagined letting them know that I grew up with limited exposure to life experiences. My socialization skills were, therefore, incomparable to those of individuals who had been exposed to life experiences.

The social clock of an average early adult depicts a character that is attending college and is engaged in a serious relationship that will hopefully lead to marriage (Ogden, 2016). While this may differ according to different cultures drastically, some form of uniformity is evident in the social clock for an early adult. In my position as an early adult, I have managed to achieve a personal social clock of attending college within the assumed age limit. I am also in a healthy relationship with my fiancée and see myself getting married soon after college. This plan still falls under my social clock as my culture assumes that an early adult should strive to marry immediately after completing college. The preferred marriage age according to this definition of my social clock, therefore, lies between ages 25 to 30 years. The social clock averages have, however, been significantly affected by environmental and cultural changes over time. The continued rise of aspects such as divorces has often evoked questions on the validity of social clocks in the current society. Many factors, including financial challenges, have limited the realization of social clocks by many adults and hence diminishing its relevance Life Experiences. The society, therefore, no longer attaches social clocks to life events and it is considerably understandable to marry in your 30’s or even 40’s (English, 2016).

With the consideration of my social clock, my possible self is that I am looking forward to graduating with good grades that will enable me to secure a job that can sustain my lifestyle after school. I also hope that my relationship will lead to marriage and that I and my fiancée live happy forever after. I, however, have fears as the future is often uncertain. My main worry is often losing my parents, and I cannot imagine living without them. They have always been by my side, and I would wish to approach and experience all social clocks with them. Concerning this, I have plans to throw a party after graduation, where I will include my parents as the guests of honor. This might be an act of publicity, but in my capacity, it would make me happy as I feel appreciative of everything my parents have done for me. I have been raised to be independent in my thinking and decision making, and this is enough to guarantee that I will achieve everything I want in life.Life Experiences I, therefore, feel a sense of primary control when undertaking my studies as it gives me a sense of personal responsibility.

My understanding of a sense of primary control in such a scenario is depicted by my capacity to control my finances, schedule my time and maintain constant communication with people that matter to me the most (Abasi, 2018). My secondary control sense is, however, focusing on perfecting my social relationship with my peers. This is often an exhausting exercise as I usually have to create time for my friends. It is, however, through the consideration of the benefits the relationships would bring that I consider sacrificing my time to keep them going. The aspect of secondary control sense is also significantly challenged in matters relating to family norms that often include; communication matters, disciplinary actions, and parenting concerns. The need to take care of these norms cannot be assumed and, therefore, evokes the need for an individual to give the norms priority as they affect their capacity as an adult. Life Experiences
