Individualized Professional Role Trajectory Paper
The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon your own leadership style and professional goals, your role concepts, and prospective action plan. Use the following guide to draft your Individualized Professional Role Trajectory paper. Also, review the Assignment rubric to ensure you have met the assignment criteria. The expected length of the paper is approximately 4-5 pages, which does not include the cover page and reference page.

My Career in Nursing
My name is Samiyah Mitchell Ramos, a student at the University Of Central Florida College Of Medicine Orlando. From an early age, I have had a drive and passion to help people, this being motivated by my people-friendly personality. My greatest inspiration for embracing nursing came from my aunt who worked as a midwife. The unending stories of her daily interaction with patients encouraged me to embrace nursing as a career. I am determined and very hard-working, with my current GPA being 3.58 in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
I am a social, with a right and positive mental attitude. With these personality skills, I am more than able to interact with patients of all ages and backgrounds. According to Boykin, “Caring is the foundation of Nursing” (Boykin et al, 2016) it is essential for a nurse to be patient sensitive as well as have the right communication skills. I can wear many hats: my main goal is to become a registered nurse case manager in my nursing career. I am aware that this path can be both challenging and rewarding. Having this in mind, not only do I want to care for patients as a nurse case manager but also use my technological skills and organizational skills attained from the organizations I have taken part in, to be able to broaden my career.
My Professional Work and Academic History
I have a volunteer certificate from Jacob Marley Foundation from 2000; I have also been certified with Basic Life Support, this program qualified me with skills to communicate with deaf people. In 2006, I obtained another license from ARN-Association Rehabilitation Nurse, where I worked as an intern in helping individuals with chronic illnesses and special needs. My recent certificate is from working with (PICC) patients: Peripheral inserted central catheters in central Florida. In 2010 I attained yet another certificate from working with certified case management.
Professional Work History
Since May 2014, I have been working with Human workers as an intern in the telecommunication department. I work as a field manager, part of my job description being conducting medical assessments, managing case files for injured workers by developing and coordinating treatment plans. I also work as a community health manager at ST Joseph Home Care. At this center, I work together with other associates in conducting home care community visits, formulating care plans that help to prevent the re-hospitalization of patients.
I have been working as a registered nurse director educator with Health Care Training Institute. I take part in this program to learn more about how to educate patients on the importance of being part of a care plan. I also learn how to work and collaborate with other professionals in inpatient care. From January 2012-2013, I worked as a field nurse manager. I worked with health care professionals from Bronx Lebanon wellness Clinic: where we collaborated to aid out individuals with quality health.
After gaining experiences from these organizations and with this knowledge, I have decided to attain graduate school to broaden my understanding of the nursing profession. My area of specialization is focused on being a Family Nurse Practitioner. My choice was based on the fact that with my current certificates, I have general knowledge and competent skills that allow me to work with all kinds of individuals.
Family Nurse Practitioner
Population in family practice includes giving primary care to adults, adolescents, newborns, infants, children, pregnant and postpartum women as well as older adults. As a family nurse practitioner, I get to give a wide range of services from health promotion to disease prevention. Part of my nursing roles will also be inclusive of developing treatment plans and educating my patients on healthy lifestyles.
The focus of care is family, meaning I have to demonstrate a commitment to family-centered care. Being a family nurse practitioner means that I will be working in the following settings: hospitals, schools, residential homes, clinics, and doctors’ offices. To serve as a policymaker, nurse case manager, or administrator, I am required to have advanced training as well as a registered license from RN. (“Family nurse practitioner (FNP),” 2018)
Personal and Professional Goals
For me to become a case manager in family nurse practice, I have to obtain an RN license that will give me the confidence to practice and handle patients. This means that I need to enroll for exams that will take around three to four months for me to complete and become a certified board member. Secondly, I need to develop the confidence to educate patients: this means that I work on my intrapersonal skills.
Having in mind that I am still working with the other organizations as an intern, I will have to employ time management skills, to bring balance to my academics and work profession. Being that my area of practice is more focused on family, I’ll have to communicate effectively with families as their case manager by keeping them to date with their health status. My last goal is to learn and identify more illnesses so that I can give proper care.
During this period, I plan on engaging with other nurse practitioners that are ahead of me to find out more about the career-related to my choice of practice. I also plan on conducting researches to find out the current social issues in the nursing field. (Masters,2017) therefore increasing my career chances in advancing my learning opportunity.
Family Nurse Practitioner Goals
As a licensed family nurse practitioner, the following are my goals: Managing and negotiating health care, implementing treatment, and professional role. In managing health care, I aim at improving health outcomes by overseeing the direct delivery of clinical services given by the hospital or care settings. I aim at stabilizing my patient’s welfare and minimizing both psychological and physical complications. Professionally, as a family nurse, I plan to employ critical thinking skills and collaborating with other medical professionals to better my patients’ health.
Role Concepts of the Advanced Practice Nurse
Part of the empirical roles that I anticipate to encounter while in graduate school include: Role stress, role stressors, and role strain. Role stress refers to a situation of increased role performance demand. An example of this is related to me trying to balance school work as well as my other jobs. Some of the role stressors that I may encounter include financial, personal, and academic demands, as well as role expectations that might conflict with my values and threatening to be excessive. The third concept is Role strain, this generally relates to tension, frustration, and anxiety in response to role stress.
Strategies of addressing these Role Concepts
Most of these concepts that I anticipate encountering are all stress-related, I, therefore, plan on employing stress managing strategies such as techniques of coping with stress. The methods are employing problem-focused skills. I will also enroll in therapy sessions and engage in team-building activities that allow me to share with my colleagues. I also plan on applying for school scholarships to help me with my finances.
My vision as a future Family Nurse Practitioner is to attend to patients of all ages and offer quality health and treatment using the culturally competent skills that allow me to offer primary care to individuals from all over the world. I plan on administering holistic and compassionate primary care and collaborate with other medical practitioners towards improving health care departments.
With the ongoing growth and development in the nursing industry and for me to be competent and secure a promising nurse career, I have to enrol in a graduate school that will lead me to my career path of becoming a family nurse case manager. This attainable through following the above personal development plan, which outlines my goals and how I plan on achieving them.
