Evaluating the Effectiveness of Evidence-Based Practice
Evidence-based practice is utilized to resolve several clinical and administrative challenges that derail the proper provision of care or diminish patient outcomes. EBP has offered solutions to many difficulties, thus derailing healthcare delivery and patient outcomes. However, it is crucial always to assess the effectiveness of the proposed EBP interventions. Evidence-based practices need to be evaluated against the anticipated results they were planned to meet. Like in any project, it is critical to do these evaluations to know whether the project is successful or fails to resolve the geriatric falls challenge. The expected results above minimize patient falls by enhancing environmental modification and increasing nursing assistance to elderly patients. Therefore, if the number of reported patient falls reduces, they have been effective in the implemented interventions. The reduction in clutters and creating a modified safe environment is anticipated to reduce the causes of falls. Increasing nursing assistance and increased hourly rounds will effectively contribute to more assistance to the patients in self-care activities often contribute to falls (Fiset, Graham & Davies, 2017).
Moreover, I may also conduct a summative evaluation of the whole project. This approach enables data collection, inputs, outputs, and outcomes in implementing the change. For instance, I would interview the patients and get nurses’ feedback on whether the interventions are feasible. Through the aggregation of the general feedback, I will evaluate how useful or non-useful the interventions have been in tackling the falls menace (Kruschke, 2017). Through evidence-based research studies, numerous interventions have been developed in improving healthcare delivery. Evaluating their effectiveness will enable the practitioner to identify the loopholes in its usability. Also, it may lead to the identification of ways to improve the intervention.
