Effective Sexual Education To Patients
ANSWERS
Sexuality is an essential aspect of holistic care, but research has revealed that it is frequently overlooked in healthcare settings. Addressing clients’ sexuality necessitates a multidisciplinary approach that cannot be handled by a single professional. According to the literature, university students and those working in hospitals and other healthcare facilities are not adequately prepared to meet the sexual needs of their patients. This study’s goal was to review the scientific literature addressing sexuality training courses for health professionals between 2000 and 2020.
Several studies have found that participating in sex education programs improves healthcare professionals’ ability to deal with patients’ sexuality issues, regardless of course load or modality. However, long-term effects have yet to be proven. Sexuality education is therefore required for all health care professionals, regardless of discipline. According to the articles reviewed, investments in training are necessary to improve the performance and comfort level of healthcare professionals when dealing with patients’ sexuality. Larger samples should be used in future interdisciplinary sex education program evaluations to investigate differences across disciplines.
