The Community Health Nurse has the obligation to assess and report on the extend to which the pandemic affects the environement.
Have an understanding of the community resources that are available and will be available after the pandemic strikes in the larger parts of the community and how the community utilize the resources together.
According to Jakeway et al (2008), Response entails the capabilities needed to save lives, protect property, environment and meet basic human needs after a pandemic outbreak occurs.
Community Health Nurses are supposed to;
Utilize the public health population based triage to assess the impact of communicable disease outbreak and the required response e.g. flu or Covid

Participate in service planning and provide a realistic time scale on basis of real time healthcare response.
Ensure that the needed and required public health nursing care is available.
Recovery comprises the core capabilities necessary to assist communities affected by the pandemic to recover effectively (Association of public Health Nurses, 2014).
Community Nurses need to conduct ongoing rapid needs assessment at a timed interval that should determine how community will recover from the pandemic. E.g. length of cessation of quarantine or isolation.
Community Health Nurses coordinated with community stakeholders to plan for long terms health concerns. They include, the Ministry of health, legislators and private sector.
They should help the community in finding a new normal after the pandemic e.g. holding counseling sessions for families who lost members to the pandemic.
Nurses conduct evaluation on the long-terms effects of the pandemic to the community in order to promote public health services e.g. struggles people face when accessing health services, the effects of vaccines administered.
