Initial Post Instructions
This discussion has two parts.

Read the following in your textbook: “Even Anthropologists Get Culture Shock” by Conrad Kottak (pp. 103-105). In complete sentences and with depth and detail, answer the following:
Identify two specific sentences that you feel taught you the most about descriptive writing.
Write each sentence with quotation marks around each and with an in-text citation after each quotation for proper citation to avoid plagiarism.
Under each of the quoted sentences from Kottak’s essay, explain what the sentence taught you about descriptive writing. Also, explain exactly what you can do with this understanding by applying it to your essay.
Post one paragraph from your narrative essay by expanding fully on an aspect of the planning template (Week 1 Assignment). Then, address to the following:
What descriptive sensory words have you used here (specific colors, shapes, motion, patterns, sound, smell, touch, taste)?
List at least 4 additional descriptive words you will add to the paragraph for your final draft due this week – words that represent specific colors, shapes, motion, patterns, sound, smell, touch, and taste.
Follow-Up Post Instructions
Respond to at least two peers or one peer and the instructor. Further the dialogue by providing more information and clarification in the following way:

Choose at least 2 descriptive words in your classmate’s post.
Show how those words could be more vivid, more “real” to the reader.
For example, note what a particular shade of green resembles, or how a hard tile floor feels beyond hard and cold – describe what that specific hardness, that specific coldness, feels like.

Descriptive Essay

Part One:
“It is a chilly, creepy feeling of alienation, of being without some of the most ordinary, trivial (and therefore basic) cues of one’s culture of origin” (Conrad phillip kottak, 2016)

The author has used descriptive words such as creepy and trivial to create a clear world for the reader: this has taught me to be more realistic and use words that create an impression on my readers’ minds. In my essay, I will modify some of the describing words that I have used. This helps me keep my readers engaged in what I am talking about as well as to better their understanding of the essay. Additionally, ((Conrad phillip kottak, 2016) has used the word “creepy”, this makes it sound more vivid by using its synonym spine-chilling or frightening.
“At one meal a disintegrating fish head, eyes still attached, but barely, stared up at me as the rest of its body floated in a bowl of bright orange palm oil….” (Russell karine, 2016, )

The use of bright orange to describe the bowl or rather the environment in which the fish is evoking a sense of sight to the reader, make it fascinating to read. It brings out the essence of descriptive writing which is not telling but showing. By this understanding, I will need to expound on using colors that are more specific and also include motion in my narrative essay. The writer tries to paint an image of how the fish looked; I feel that it is less descriptive. I would add descriptive words such as “Salmon fish or grilled fish’.
Part two: Post one paragraph from your narrative essay by expanding fully on an aspect of the planning template (Week 1 Assignment).

I was at the reception, leaning on the white L-shaped desk clearing out one of my assigned patients when I heard loud sirens from outside. In my mind, I just thought that it was yet another regular patient, not until when it was announced that we were receiving the first Covid 19 patient. People were instructed to clear out of the facility. I watched as hospital attendants dressed in milk-white PPEs and black A95 masks brought the patient in, who looked like he was in his middle twenties. The family members followed right behind with watery eyes, one of them that seemed like the patient’s mother was screaming uncontrollably. The doctors quickly rushed him to the isolation room.
Descriptive sensory words used: Milk-white, L-shaped, black masks, banging of doors, rough floor, uncontrollable screams, smooth.
Four additional descriptive words that I would use the following: Bright-white, ear-splitting, hinged, antiseptic.

Conrad phillip kottak. (2016). Cultural Anthropology.

Russell karin. (2016). write now. Mc Graw Hill.
