Care and Management of Patients

In your reading this week, the authors highlighted the importance of identifying various perspectives and worldviews in regards to the care and management of patients across the lifespan. For example, both the medical and nursing perspectives have something unique to contribute to health care and the achievement of positive patient outcomes. That said, examine components of the ‘medical’ perspective and the ‘advanced practice nursing’ perspective. What are the similarities? What are the differences? How can both professions improve communication and collaboration to enhance patient outcomes? Please include research studies and/or reliable electronic sources to support your arguments. ( 1 page)

Health practitioners have a role to improve the medical outcomes of patients. Medical and nursing practitioners are examples of health practitioners who are committed to assisting in disease prevention and the promotion of the well-being of patients. The paper seeks to establish the constituents of medical and advanced nursing practitioners about the administration of treatment to patients.
Nurses and medical doctors have a role in the overall treatment of patients. Both teams are considered to be essential to the delivery of quality healthcare, therefore, considerably sharing many similarities (Kutzman & Burnow 2017). Patient diagnosis and medical prescriptions can be done by both nurses and doctors. Doctors and nurses can also record the medical histories of patients.
There, however, exists a large contrast between doctors and advanced nursing practitioners. The differences come in in terms of; roles played, education background, and, the overall outlook (Nelson, Bradley, Martindale, MacBride and Hodgson 2019). Nurses mainly focus on the patients’ wellbeing in terms of watching their eating habits and identifying their environmental conditions like family background. Doctors are generally concerned with disease diagnosis and treatment. The education of doctors and advanced nurses differs. For one to become an advanced nursing practitioner, he/she has to obtain certification. For medical doctors the education system is quite intensive and requires no certificate of practice.
Communication between medical doctors and nursing practitioners is crucial in the overall wellness of patients. Poor communication is a major cause of patient deterioration (Kutzman & Burnow 2017). Hospital management should provide a conducive environment that promotes information and perspective sharing among nurses and doctors. Communication can also be improved when both practitioners are allowed to specialize in their fields, therefore, improving the general quality of patient outcomes.
