Barriers to Implementation of the EBP Falls Prevention Project
QUESTION
Sustaining change can be difficult, as there are many variables that can affect implementation. One critical component of EBP is to ensure that practice change is part of an organization’s culture so it will continue to impact outcomes over time. Name two potential barriers that may prevent your EBP change proposal from continuing to obtain the same desired results 6 months to a year from now, and your strategies for overcoming these barriers.

Barriers to Implementation of The EBP Falls Prevention Project
Through evidence-based practice, the project is expected to reduce the rates of geriatric patient falls. The project interventions are increasing nursing rounds and incorporating smart beds that will improve patient surveillance. Based on the preliminary results, the total adoption of practice change will be possible based on the EBP change. For instance, the nursing schedules will be tweaked to accommodate increased nursing hourly rounds.
As postulated by Barends et al., 2017, implementing the evidence-based practice is faced with several barriers to implementation, such as inadequate resources and a lack of managerial capacity to sustain the project. For instance, lack of adequate facility resources may hinder implementing the EBP practice change of using smart beds. Besides, the nurses’ workflow may be adjusted to accommodate more patient monitoring but request to be paid overtime for this change, which may stretch the facility’s budget. Smart beds and bed alarms may be difficult to purchase for the facility as they are costly and require high maintenance standards (Kruschke, 2017). The target population being old may also fail to adopt the new change of smart beds effectively. This is because they are old and ailing from neurological conditions that may hamper their cognition in using the beds.
To navigate these barriers such a resource inadequacy, we may present findings to possible donors such as the state government or charitable organizations and seek donations to sponsor the practice change. Additionally, the nurses and patients will be trained on the practice changes for ease of adoption into the workflow and daily activities.
