Part 1
The rate of teen pregnancy in the state has been going down for the last decade’. There are possible reasons that have contributed to the development. The first is increased sexual education among teens. Sex education makes teens more responsible for their sexual behavior. The American College of Obstetricians Gynecologists advocates for the availability of contraceptives to teenagers. As a result, there is minimal risk for teenage pregnancy. In addition, parents have put more effort towards teenage counseling on sexual health. However, it has been a collective effort by public health officials, community health workers and parents.
To conclude, increased information on sexual health is the biggest contributor to the low rates witnessed in the last decade. Information has become easily accessible on the internet, empowering teens to engage in healthy sexual activities.
Part 2
External stressors unique to adolescents include bodily changes and issues with peers and friends. Teenagers undergo development in their bodies during adolescence, such as menstruation and physical changes. As a result, they may get stressed as they cope with the changes due to a lack of information. On the other hand, relationship with peers becomes strained during adolescence. At this stage, most teenagers are at the self-discovery phase and may fall out with peers as they develop to maturity, causing stress.
Various coping mechanisms can be adopted. First, therapy in case of heightened stress is beneficial for teenagers. Therapy and counseling help them understand that occurring changes are normal. Another coping mechanism is allowing them to engage in controlled leisure such as playing musical instruments and sports.
