Electronic Medical Records (EMR) shows promising outcomes in the facilitation of healthcare improvements. Despite the promising results, the adoption and implementation of the system are faced with numerous challenges. The transition from document-based storage to the EMR process is resource and time-consuming. This paper examines how the ‘Massoud and Colleagues Spread’ innovation is used to addressing challenges faced in adopting EMR in health the facility.
The first challenge associated with implementing EMR is developing the right attitudes, skills, and knowledge of the clinical and support staff. Healthcare practitioners should be informed early on and in the process of development to improve their attitudes and skills (Jawhari, Ludwick, Keenan, Zakus, and Hayward 2016). According to Massoud, spread innovation, creating awareness, and user empowerment can increase positive views about the EMR system.
