Addressing EMR Challenges Using Massoud Innovation
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) shows promising outcomes in the facilitation of healthcare improvements. Despite the promising results, the adoption and implementation of the system are faced with numerous challenges. The transition from document-based storage to the EMR process is resource and time-consuming. This paper examines how the ‘Massoud and Colleagues Spread’ innovation is used to addressing challenges faced in adopting EMR in health the facility.
The first challenge associated with implementing EMR is developing the right attitudes, skills, and knowledge of the clinical and support staff. Healthcare practitioners should be informed early on and in the process of development to improve their attitudes and skills (Jawhari, Ludwick, Keenan, Zakus, and Hayward 2016). According to Massoud, spread innovation, creating awareness, and user empowerment can increase positive views about the EMR system. The leader needs to organize the different channels of communication to share technical knowledge and raise awareness.
Staff members need to be given thorough training about the new transition before it is implemented. The training is time-consuming and a hassle for the medical practitioner as they already have a workload at their backs (Mousa, Ayoubi, and Massoud, 2020). They have to put extra time and effort to learn and understand the EMR. A specific time frame for the training needs to be established to avoid time wastage. The infrastructure that will assist in training staff members should be identified and used.
Medical practitioners find it difficult to adapt the EMR system to fit into the current workflow. Obtaining feedback on the EMR system’s progress is crucial in the adaption of the software (Mousa, Ayoubi, and Massoud, 2020). Methods of obtaining information may include formal and informal reports from the staff about the system and constant communication between the staff members and the information technology (IT) experts.
