What single meaningful moment in time in your life have you chosen to narrate? Be sure you are choosing one of the possible prompts noted in the assignment, and take care to cover the following very specifically: What, When, Where, Who, Why.

Reflecting back on some of the powerful moments I experienced, I am inclining more on the experience I had during the Covid 19 pandemic. I choose this as my topic of choice in the narrative essay, because it is an ordeal that is still fresh in my heart and mind. I remember it in so much clarity that I am well able to narrate every detail. Every time I look at my nursing uniform, it reminds me of what took place that day. The hospital, the patient that came in, the family members is able to answer the where and who. The incoming patient was suspected to have Covid 19, and it was during the very time when the pandemic outbreak had just been announced. This answers the question on whom, what and when. My topic of choice brings out a picture of the event to my readers.

When writing in the Narrative Rhetorical Pattern, our reader craves sensory detail (colors, shapes, patterns, light/dark, sounds, smell, touch sensations), as well as action and impact (relevance to the reader’s own world, a sense of satisfaction and/or inspiration). The milk-white color of the hospital attendants PPE stood out for me, it is a regular uniform but that day it brought out the agency of matter at hand. The black A95 masks stated that this was an emergency, I still feel scared when I see the black masks.

When I think about the shapes around that day, I remember the L-shaped reception desk; I was standing there when our first Covid 19 patient was brought in. I also remember him coming in through the door, as they turned the square door leaf.

The very sound that rings in my ears till date was the unctrolable screams coming from the patients mum. The whole place was chaotic: the banging of doors as the doctors rushed the
Patient to the isolation room and the siren coming from the ambulance alarmed all of us.

It was such a heartfelt scene to behold; I could only imagine what the mum and the rest of the family were feeling

Standing at the reception, I laid my hands on the L-shaped reception desk, feeling its smoothness. The roughness on the hospital floor is still memorable till date.

My heart was filled with fear recalling on the news I saw of sick patients in china that were suffering from the Covid 19.

As I look back on the events of that day, my mind is still in shock of how the pandemic affected our nation and the overwhelming feeling it had on the hospital attendants. It is also a relief on the positive side, we were able to save the young man’s life and it brings me great joy.
